PostSubject: Infected no more!   Wed Aug 19, 2009 3:18 pm

My computers been infected with some kind of virus its some kind of "clicker" virus so when ever I use serch engines it'll hyjack it and print off a fake list of results that lead me to different sites.
My AVG free is useless and now I can't search for virus scanners online cause I get redirected, so could anyone give me a few hints on what you use for anti virus (free if possible) and link them to me that would be great.
As a last resort I've got a spare harddrive so I could move my work over to that and wipe this one but i'm not sure if that'll work or where to find a good hardrive wiper.

What fun this is Rolling Eyes

Norton 360 here, but I've just sat here for the last 3-4 wiping and re-installing everything.

    I never pay for Anti-Virus.

I use AVG on my laptop (not had any viruses yet) and on my main pc I use Avast! Antivirus (and no, not just because it makes me think of pirat , but that is a nice added bonus.), with that installed I've not had a virus in over 8 years now.

If you *do* desperately want to pay for something absolutely guaranteed to keep viruses away, I've heard a few techies swear by ESET Nod32.

I'd recommend staying well clear of anything associated with Norton; the amount of people's computers I've had to repair over they years because of that bloody software doesn't bare thinking about.

    Completely agree with LW here.

I use AVG too and have not had a problem with viruses. Why pay when you can use something for free that works? Smile

anywho, norton has given me and my friends nothing but headaches.

Don't wanna tell you how to suck eggs here or anything PJK, but do you have an Ad-Ware and Spy-Ware detector as well?

Sometimes stuff can flag up as a Virus that is nothing of the sort and a quick clean with something like Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search & Destroy will clear it right up.

Any pc I build I always make sure it has Anti-Virus, Ad-ware detectors and Spyware detectors before giving it to 'em.

I'm using Avast as well...It's free and catches every suspicious material immediately...I have been using it for 5 years and I've never had a virus problem.

I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus and haven't had a single problem since I bought it, and I've been using it for donkey's years. I agree with Dugo though for free ones Avast is pretty damn good.

    Good Luck! /salute

oh! Run Ad-Aware before Spybot as both programs are pretty sensitive and if you run Spybot first, ad-aware can (not always) pick up the alterations SpyBot made while cleaning as potential adware.

And DO SYSTEM RESTORE first mate!
